BATTERY REGENERATION
Is your battery broken? There’s an 80 per cent chance it isn’t.
What isn’t much talked about is the fact that battery maintenance doesn’t stop at refilling the cells.
Once or twice a year it is worth desulfating your battery for a prolonged longevity. Desulfation is advised to take place in autumn – before more serious use – and in spring to keep your power source in top shape when needed.
In the current situation – when we aren’t driving much – it is worth thinking of what will happen when we do start using our vehicle. Since a lot of people are working from home, many can dispense their vehicles for as long as 24 to 36 hours.
YES! 24 TO 36 HOURS!
A complete desulfation of a battery can take as long as 36 hours depending on its state and capacity.

Battery life and performance can be extended or maintained with the help of a desulfator. On the discs of a healthy battery, the lead (negative) and the lead dioxide (positive) bodies create an extremely fine spread of thread. Due to the large surface, the acid molecules can get into close proximity of the lead and lead dioxide molecules, therefore a large current is almost instantly created, turning the bodies on both discs into lead sulfate. During charging the process is reversed.
When the battery goes flat, it is practically sulfation. In this process, lead sulfate crystals are generated on both disc surfaces. When discharging happens slowly (e.g. self-discharging) or a battery is kept discharged for too long then large lead sulfate molecules are generated instead of the expected large surface, leading the battery to lose capacity and it eventually breaks down.
